Aztec Label, a producer of a wide range of high quality self-adhesive label and tag products, has invested in Toyobo water wash plate technology further boosting the company’s sustainability strategy.
Colin Le Gresley, Managing Director, said: “It’s clear, despite the current focus on the unfortunate coronavirus situation that we all find ourselves in, that the environmental agenda is still front of mind for many brands and their consumers. By eliminating solvents from our plate production process, we are making another step towards minimising our environmental impact.
“We have implemented a range of measures over the past couple of years to drive efficiency and minimise waste to reduce our carbon footprint in label printing. Our move to solvent-free plate production complements these initiatives and enables us to work with partners who are seeking the latest technology solutions.”
Toyobo, a Japanese headquartered global film and functional polymers manufacturer, commercialised Cosmolightâ photopolymer technology to produce water washable plates that are durable to water-based inks. The computer-to-plate solution delivers low dot-gain and high reproduction capability, improves the operator’s working environment with zero solvent emissions from the wash out process, and boosts productivity.
Shaun Stevens, Director at Evolve Solutions, the reseller for Toyobo plate technology in the UK, said: “We were delighted to work with Colin and the team at Aztec to deliver this solution. With many regions in the UK looking to Net Zero as a target for carbon emissions in the not too distance future, it’s key that printers are seeking alternatives to solvents wherever possible. Of course, with the current COVID-19 situation also creating price hikes for ethanol, having water wash plates is also extremely cost effective.”
